Portugal

Lisbon

What an amazing place for a February getaway. We left the UK in snow and went to 18 degrees and sunny. As usual, we did the Red sightseeing bus to get the lay of the land and highly recommended if you are going to Torre de Belém which is quite out of the way. I love the sheer scale of the mouth of the Tagus river. The Timeout market is a must-see for any food and wine lover!

Things we recommend:

Getting day drunk | Timeout Market | Little Wine Bar | Pastis De Nata

Sintra

We took the train here, it is so easy to get to and it is so gorgeous once you are there, the walk uphill was challenging, but gorgeous and it made you appreciate it more when you were there.

Things we recommend:

It was hard, but walk up the hill to the entrance | Reward yourself with lunch when you get down | Have another Pastis De Nata

Oranjemund

Our first stop was to Pippa's birthplace. Where Kate proposed! A trip down memory lane for Pippa's parents, but what a place with  all the wildlife running around!

Luderitz

Stayed in a lovely Airbnb in the centre (of the not too big town) and from here visited something we could scratch off Kate's bucket list - the deserted Kolmanskop. Watch out for Snakes... although we didn't see any...

Fish River Canyon

Just absolutely breathtaking, a definite must-see if you are in the area!

Grünau

We only stayed here for a night, but it was amazing. Old school farmhouse with a farm-style meal for dinner. Gin and Tonics watching the red sun set.

Augrabies Falls

Another must-see! This one again because it is so different, you are in awe of the power of the falls.

Kimberley

This was one of the longer legs of our trip as it was where Pippa and her family lived for about 4 years. We investigated all the old stomping grounds and also found a lively pub that we called home. We ended up having an Airbnb with a tennis court and needless to say that things got competitive.

Matjiesfontein

Things we recommend:

The Star in Kimberely | Silo Hotel in Cape Town | Chefs Warehouse in Cape TownSpend some time in Matjiesfontein Be overwhelmed by the Fish River Canyon & Augrabies falls Experience the diamond rush in Kimberely (De Beers) Explore Kolmanskop

Amazing old hotel and old London bus which does the shortest bus tour in the world (I actually think it owns the title) then the fam ended up in the bar singing and having wine. Standard antics.

Cape Town

The final stop of our amazing trip. Here we saw Pippa's peeps at an engagement/birthday party and went to the amazing Chef's warehouse restaurant, which was a flavour explosion!

Spain

Menorca

This was a lovely holiday with most of both families. We hired a villa and just lazed by the pool, walked to the shops and drank sangria. Pippa also "had" to watch the Ashes, so Kate and Pippa had very different Tuesdays.

Things we recommend:

Barracuda Restaurant | Make sure you get your ice cream when you go shopping as a reward  | Sangria in a box
