Why go to Ghent? For the croquettes of course!

Now I am of course kidding, there was way more to Ghent than a small bread crumbed fried food roll containing a plethora of deliciousness inside. But you didn't come here for that or else you would be in the travel section.
To be fair to Ghent, is wasn't just the croquettes. By some good fortune as we were wandering around the pretty old cobbled streets, we happened across an arrow towards a food market. Always our thing so off we went, and what we found is yet to be rivalled in any other city to this date. A culinary experience in a stunningly decorated old church.

As you can see, not just any church. We must have come here 3 times in the 2 days we were in Ghent as it was just so hard to beat. Cheap, no, but good things rarely are. Before we get onto the croquettes, a few other honourable mentions. Frank and Brut, the smartest name for any food place ever. Can you guess what they serve? Yep, hot dogs and champagne. Another find was a Russian bar where we enjoyed a beer. We were getting quite giddy...were we tired from the trip? Had we forgotten to eat lunch? No to both. The beers we were drinking were 9%. That is how they do it in Russia!
OK OK, I promised you croquettes, and here they are....

By a place called Bubba, they are perfectly fried without being greasy and come in a variety of flavours, something for everyone! The standouts were the classics, cheese and ham, and tow wild entries, prawn and truffle. The truffle in particular went down extremely well with a cold class of Riesling. Want one yet?
